What's New

Siobhan Darcy-Bewick, from Dublin Ireland, has formed a "sister" organization called "Operation New Life" a non-profit group who has joined forces with IOWD to help the fistula women of Niger.

Dr. Marypat Fitzgerald, an IOWD Medical Advisory Board Member, introduced Siobhan to us and after 2 incredible trips to Niger, Siobhan was ready to make a firm commitment to help the fistula women.

Persuasive and strong willed, Siobhan convinced Ciaran Corcoran and Fran Whelan, Directors of the well known architectual firm, Whelan Corcoran Smith in Swords County, Dublin, to join us in Niger. The architects have agreed to design a Fistula/Women's Health Center at the National Hospital. Whelan and Corcoran met with local Nigerien architects, Dr. Ibrahim Sabou, Director of the National Hospital, Ms. Darcy-Bewick and IOWD directors to discuss various needs and obstacles. We are anticipating a 54-bed complex with 2 operating theaters, and a conference hall for educational meetings and lectures.

Siobhan's main objective is to raise 1 million dollars plus to build the Centre. Watch out world here comes Siobhan Darcy-Bewick!!!! Determined, passionate and in "constant motion", we are convinced that Siobhan will achieve her goal, for sure!!! Please follow her website at www.operationnewlife.net

This dedicated building will be the first of its kind in Niger. Besides providing fistula surgeries, our intent is to bring specialists in women's health to teach at this new facility and for the Nigerien doctors and nurses to ultimately be able to offer better health care for the women of Niger.

IOWD is extremely proud to be associated with Siobhan Darcy-Bewick. We are all incredibly grateful to Fran Whelan and Ciaran Corcoran for donating their time and efforts and designs for a new Centre for the women of Niger.
